STOREKEEPER WINS BUNGALOW
CHRISTCHURCH RAFFLE DRAWN Mr G. V. Bergh, who runs the general store at Sheffield, North Canterbury, is the winner of the bungalow raffle drawn last week. Married, with a daughter aged 11, Mr Bergh was still slightly dazed by his good fortune when a Christchurch reporter telephoned him to confirm the news.
The winning ticket, he said, was one of several he had bought, and was taken out two days before sales closed. Mr Bergh sold a number of books over the counter of his store, and little realized what a good sixpenny investment he made when he selected lucky No. A 95420.
Mr Bergh, with his family, was listening in when the raffle was drawn. With their store of tickets spread out before them, the Berghs could not believe their ears and eyes when the winning number turned up. Mr Bergh at once communicated with the authorities in Christchurch and checked the number. He then proceeded to ring relations and friends to let them know the good news. On Saturday morning, many callers at the store c mgratulated the family on their good fortune. Mr Bergh, who never seriously considered what he would do if he won the bungalow and all the incidentals that go with it, is now wondering how to make the best use of his windfall. “Just now I haven’t the faintest’idea,” he declared.
