Scattered Showers (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, September 19. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Fresh io strong south-westerly winds. Weather cloudy, with scattered showers. Temperatures cool and seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather unsettled in Westland, with intermittent rain and drizzle; elsewhere fair to fine at first, but scattered showers extending later to the eastern districts of the South Island, and to districts west of the main ranges of the North Island. Temperatures mild, but becoming cooler in the south. General Situation.—Pressure is high over the north Tasman Sea and northern New Zealand. A vigorous depression is centred south-west of the South Island. Winds.—From a westerly quarter prevailing; strong to gale force at times from Cook Strait southwards, but otherwise moderate, with later a more definite change to south-west extending over the South Island. Seas (N.Z. waters). —Moderate north fo Kawhia and inshore on the East Coast; elsewhere rough and becoming very rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Moderate to strong north-westerly winds in the northern portion, with rather rough seas. A change to strong south-wester-lies in the central' and southern portions during tonight, with rough to very rough seas. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was windy and wet. A strong northwest wind blew for most of the day and in the late afternoon heavy rain began to fall. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cold and clear with a strong wind from the north-west. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows:— Ibis morning (rising) 29.98 in. Thursday 29.88 in. Wednesday 29.98 in.
