TO OPEN WITH LORD’S PRAYER
SCHOOLS IN WELLINGTON EDUCATION DISTRICT (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 18. Though in the opinion of the chairman the motion had the effect of making the board usurp the function of Parliament, the Wellington Education Board this morning, by 11 votes to three, resolved that in future all schools in the board’s district shall be opened each morning with the Lord’s Prayer, subject to the approval of the school committees and head teachers concerned. The board deferred to the next meeting consideration of representations by various bodies on the decision to refuse the Navy League permission to enter schools during school hours. A deputation from the Returned Soldiers’ Association urged that the motion be rescinded.
