SUCCESS OF FIGHTER PLANE APPEAL

PRIME MINISTER SENDS CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations on the success of the Southland fighter aeroplane appeal were conveyed to the committee in a letter which the secretary,- Mr R. R. Binney, has received from the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser). “Thank you very much for your letter of September 9 informing me that the Southland Fighter Aeroplane Fund had reached the total of £21,000 and that the appeal had been closed,” states the letter. “I duly received from the treasurer of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Fund a cheque for £10,500 and arrangements are in hand for this amount to be transmitted at an early date to the Home authorities together with the request about the naming and manning of the aeroplane. “I am grateful for the expression of the committee’s appreciation of the assistance which I was only too glad to afford it, and I desire to congratulate it most heartily on the outstanding success which attended its efforts.” '
