COMPETITION FOR MILLS_SHIELD WESTERN DISTRICT SCHOOLS MATCHES

The annual tournament among schools in the Western District for the Mills Shield was played at Otautau. Seven teams were entered from the following schools: Otautau, Orepuki, Ohai, Thornbury, Fairfax, Tuatapere and Nightcaps. Rain during the afternoon made the ground heavy and the ball difficult to handle. ..The final was fought out between Otautau and Nightcaps, and resulted in a win for the former by 3 points to nil. In presenting the trophy at the conclusion of the tournament Mr A. H. Lindsay, president of the Western District Sub-Union, congratulated tire winners on their success.

Following were the results:— First round—Nightcaps beat Tuatapere, 8-5; Fairfax beat Thornbury, 3-nil; Orepuki beat Ohai, 8-3; Otautau a bye. Semi-final.—Nightcaps - beat Fairfax, 3-nil; Otautau beat Orepuki, 3-nil. Final.—Otautau beat Nightcaps, 3-nil.
