UNION CRICKET CLUB

TWO TEAMS ENTERED IN COMPETITIONS

A decision to enter senior and junior A teams in the Southland Cricket Association’s competitions was reached by the Union Cricket Club at the annual meeting last night It was stated that the association was anxious to get an early indication of what teams would be available. It was decided to support one-day matches for the coming season. Congratulations were extended to G. Marshall and I. Overton, who had won representative honours in the senior and junior grades, by the chairman (Mr R. Swinney) in moving the adoption of the annual report and balancesheet. The club had a good record for the number of its members who had enlisted for service. He expressed his thanks to Mr A. J. Hamilton for the keen interest he had shown in the game and in the welfare of the club. Mr Hamilton congratulated the club on die success of the season. He congratulated Mr Swinney on winning the Sutton Jones Memorial Trophy and on scoring a century on Country Day. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following office-bearers were elected:—Patron, Mr A. W. Jones; president, Mr A. Anderson; vice-presi-dents, Messrs P. A. Poole, W. Jones, P. J. Brass, R. T. Barnett, A. Wachner, H. Morrison, J. Hamilton, C. Brew, C. E. Borne, R. Taylor, C. Dimon, A. V. Poole, C. C. Stewart and F. Hinton; club captain, Mr D. Cameron; secretary, Mr D. Paterson; treasurer, Mr R. Swinney; delegates to the Southland Cricket Association,. Messrs A. J. Hamilton and R. Swinney; committee, Messrs G. Marshall, J. Miller, C. Shirley, A. Storrie, A. J. Hamilton and R. Watson; auditor, Mr J. Hamilton; selector, Mr R. Swinney; junior advisory delegate, Mr V. McMillan; club coach, Mr A. J. Hamilton. Two new members were elected. Opening day was fixed for October 5. A suggestion that if there was a shortage of players two or more clubs could amalgamate for practices was briefly discussed and it was agreed to keep the question in mind.
