VICTIMS OF BOMBING IN LONDON
LOCAL SUPPORT FOR FUND Generous support in Southland is indicated for the appeal in aid of victims of air bombing in London. The provincial patriotic treasurer (Mr W. F. Sturman) yesterday received two substantial gifts towards the fund. The children of the Glenham and South Wyndham schools sent £32/0/10, the proceeds of a Paddy’s market, to be devoted in equal proportions to the London appeal and to the funds of the Red Cross. The Isla Bank Patriotic Committee sent £6O/13/6 raised at a bring-and-buy sale and a showing of films and requested that after the. district’s quota for Christmas parcels had been met the balance should be devoted to the London fund. The quota amounted to £2/10/-, leaving £5B/3/6 for the London fund. AUCKLAND TOTAL MAY REACH £6OOO (United - ress Association) WELLINGTON, September 17. In answer to the appeal of the Mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) to the people of Wellington to subscribe £3OOO as the city’s quota of the New Zealand contribution to the fund being raised by the Lord Mayor of London for the relief of victims of the German bombing, £5387 had been received at 3 p.m. today. The city treasurer expects the total to reach £6OOO.
