FORMATION OF HOME GUARD
K.S.A. TO ASSIST IN ORGANIZATION
A request to assist in the organization and training of the Home Guard was received by the executive committee of the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ Association at its meeting on Monday night from the national executive. Full support was promised and it was stated that the Commander of the Home Guard (Major-General R. Young) was expected to visit Invercargill shortly to make the necessary arrangements for the formation of the Guard.
Advice was also received from the national executive that disappointment had been expressed by some associations that a company of the National Military Reserve, Class 11, had not been formed in their districts. The letter stated that it had not been found expedient to form companies in some districts and in these cases the Home Guard, which members of the asssociations would have an opportunity of joining, would fulfil requirements. The executive also decided to give full support to the patriotic sports rally which is to be held at Rugby Park on September 28.
