Mainly Fair To Cloudy

WELLINGTON, September 17. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological. Office, Wellington: Moderate to fresh westerly winds, with some showers, but the weather mainly fair to cloudy. Temperatures moderate and seas moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:

Weather for the most part fair to fine with a few passing showers over the Auckland Peninsula, however, and some scattered rain in the far southwest'and south. Cold tonight with some frosts in both islands but moderate day temperatures. General Situation: The depression which was centred over the North Island yesterday has moved rapidly eastward and is now located north-east of the Chat-ham-Islands. An anti-cyclone extends from Australia across the North Tasman Sea.

Winds: Light to fresh south-westerly to westerly winds predominating. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough at first north of Kawhia and between East Cape and Castle Point Slight or moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds and moderate seas.

The weather was fine yesterday morning in Invercargill. In the afternoon, the sky was overcast and there were light, scattered showers. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cold and showery with a strong wind from the south-west. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows:— This morning (steady) 29.92 in. Tuesday 29.92 in. Monday 29.98 in.
