SOUTHLAND BOYS’ SUCCESSES

PUPILS OF McGLASHAN COLLEGE

During the term recently concluded Southland boys performed creditably in the outdoor activities of John McGlashan College, Dunedin. Duncan McE. King, of Winton, won his football colours, and his form against St. Kevin’s College, Oamaru, stamped him as a very promising full-back. King also, won the Oxley Cup awarded to the winner of the senior boxing contest, after conceding height, weight and reach to his opponent. A younger brother, lan King, distinguished himself by winning what was, according to Mr J. Kilmartin, president of the Otago Boxing Association, the finest flyweight bout he had seen for years. A third Southland boxing success was won by K. McKay, of Riverton, who displayed promise above the average. The fourth Southlander to impress was H. C. Macdonald, of Lumsden, whose forward play showed outstanding improvement, during his season with the first fifteen. Macdonald has potentialities as a fast bowler. He took four wickets for 17 runs against St. Andrew’s College, Christchurch.
