CONCERT BY MUSIC TEACHERS
Rehearsals held last night for the concert arranged by the music teachers of Invercargill provided an indication of the treat in store for those who attend the concert at the Civic Theatre tomorrow night. The orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr W. J. Ferguson, gave fine performances and the massed choirs, with more than 150 voices under the baton of Mr L. E. Dailey, gave promise of presenting singing of an extremely high standard. Both Mr Dailey and Mr Charles Martin, who will accompany the choirs, expressed their. satisfaction with the rehearsal and agreed that the choral numbers will be an outstanding feature of a very attractive programme. Other contributions to the concert will be songs by Mrs J. Rattray and Miss Margaret Casey, Messrs L. E. Dailey and Alex Wilson; a trio by Misses M. and G. Hunter and M. Arnott; a pianoforte solo by Miss Mary Gilbert, a pianoforte duet by Misses M. Searle and M. Fitzgerald; a double duo by Misses D. Anderson, J. Rose, S. Gough and J. Horrell, of the O’Bryne School of Music; elocutionary items by Miss Mary Thomson and Ismay Fenn; and dancing by the Southland School of Highland and Classic Dancing. The proceeds of the concert will be given to the emergency precautions scheme and to the St. John Ambulance Association for the purchase of necessary equipment.
