SKI-ING CONTESTS DECIDED
OTAGO WINS WIGLEY CUP SLALOM COURSE SET AT QUEENSTOWN The Otago Ski Club beat the Southland Club in a. teams’ contest for the Wigley Cup on the slopes of . Coronet Peak, near Queenstown, during the week-end. Representatives of a number of other clubs, including Timaru arid Oamaru, were present, but as conditions were poor for ski-ing, there being rain at Queenstown and driving snow on the tops, intending competitors other than the Otago and Southland club members did not compete. The contest was held in deep, powdered snow. The best two performances by men and women competitors in each team were counted and the aggregate times decided the result. The course was a slalom one and was set by Mr A. G. Wigley, of Queenstown. The Southland Club’s open championships for men and women were also held over the same course.
The Wigley Cup contest resulted as follows: —
Otago—(R. Rodda, N. Bewley, Mrs J. Gilkison, Miss L. Corbet) 1. Time, 7min 3 2-ssec.
Southland—(G. Ryan, C. Sneyd, Miss J. Macauley, Mbssburn, Miss B. Kean) 2. Time, Bmin 53 2-ssec. The Southland championships resulted as follows: —
Men—G. Ryan 1, C. Sneyd 2. Women—Miss J. Macauley 1, Miss B. Kean 2.
