OTAUTAU

ATHLETIC SOCIETY MEETING Mr G. Sinclair, president, presided over a good, attendance at the annual meeting of the Otautau Athletic Society. The chairman referred to the loss to the society by the death of Mr A. Bulman, sen., a foundation member, who had taken a great interest in the society. He was a great athlete in his younger days and all deplored his death. A motion that a letter of condolence be sent to Mrs Bulman and family was carried. The society was indebted to the Domain Board and the Holt Bequest for providing extra accommodation on Holt Park, and it was appreciated by the public, said the chairman. The board had refused the request for extra conveniences, but temporary ones had been erected.

The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting to £603/13/- and the expenditure to £370/8/10, leaving a credit balance of £233/4/2. The credit balance from the ball was £5l/3/10.

The gate receipts were increased by £7 over the previous year, the nominations were up by £B, the membership by .34/4/- and the income for the year had been increased by £2O. Good weathei - had been experienced for the seventeenth annual sports, said the chairman. ' The grounds were in good order, and he desired to thank the various officials, and particularly the broadcaster, Mr A. A. Liddell, for the manner in which they had carried out their duties.

It was resolved that the prize-money be the same and that all profits from the meeting be devoted to some worthy object in connection with the war. Mr K. McKenzie said that in view of this decision he was prepared to increase his donation from £2/2/- to £5/5/-, and this was accepted with thanks, as was also Mr Hassed’s offer to donate 1/- from each log cut for the sports. It was decided to delete the consolation race from the programme, and to substitute a half-mile amateur cycle race with the same prize-money.
