RICH PRIZE TO BEAULIVRE

Chelmsford Stakes Victory

HIGH CASTE BEATEN IN FAST TIME EPSOM DUEL KEENLY AWAITED (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received September 15, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 15. Continuing his winning way Beaulivre completed the hat trick on Saturday when he won the rich Chelmsford Stakes at Tattersali’s Club meeting at Randwick. He also established his superiority over High Caste, but the latter showed more dash on Saturday than in recent races and an Interesting duel between the pair is expected in the Epsom Handicap, for which they are almost equal favourites. The Lord Quex colt, Pinero, who won I’-' Three and Four-Year-Old Handicap, downed the odds-on favourite. Evergreen, for the second time within a fortnight. Beaupartir and Gladynev held forward positions in the Spring Handicap, but neither threatened danger in the final stages. . The stewards held an inquiry into Gladynev’s running and accepted the explanation of the stable connections. The stewards later reported that they reprimanded the jockey, F. Shean, for his indifferent handling of Gladynev.

Following are the chief results:—

TRAMWAY HANDICAP, £5OO. Seven furlongs. TELASTUR 7.8 (Knox) 1 KATANGA 7.13 (Bartie) 2 RADICAL 8.3 (Ashmore) 3 Fourteen started. Brazen Boy was scratched. Won by a head, third a length away. Time. 1.25.

CHELMSFORD STAKES, £lOOO. One mile and a furlong. BEAULIVRE 9.7 (Munro) 1 HIGH CASTE 9.7 (Bartie) 2 PANDECT 7.9 (Cook) 3 All started. Won by half a length, third a head away. St. Constant was fourth and Nightbeam eighth. Time, 1.51%.

Won by a neck, third threequarters of a length away. Cooranga was fourth, Gladyney sixth and Beaupartir ninth. Time, 2.5%. AJAX’S TASK > The jockey, D. Munro, expresses lhe opinion that Ajax will have a hard task to beat Beaulivre in weight-for-agc races in Melbourne in October and November. The first clash is likely to be in the Caulfield Stakes.

Beaulivre’s time for the Chelmsford Stakes was Imin 51%sec, actually as meritorious as Heroic’s Imin 50%sec in 1924, as because of the false rail in use on Saturday Beaulivre covered 27 yards more than the customary distance of nine furlongs. Three colts whose prospects for the A.J.C. Derby were enhanced by Saturday’s outings were the Victorians, Lucrative, Pandect and Scientist, the last-named winning the Randwick Novice Handicap in hollow fashion.
