BLUFF NEWS

GOLF The men’s flag match played on Saturday was won by D. G. Bruce, who carried the flag to the 19th hole. > Results of the semi-final games for the secretary’s trophy are:—Mitchell beat Beaton, 3 and 2; Edwards beat Newman, 6 and 5. POSTING BOXES Yet another method of saving the time of Post Office officials is being instituted at Bluff. This is the requirement that all residents whose homes are situated more than 10 feet from the street line, have boxes erected within that distance, for the reception of mail. The maximum distance hitherto was 30 feet. This applies only to the residential area, and the usual mail delivery to business premises is still maintained. The time saved by the postman will enable him to be employed longer within the post office and thus relieve the position that staff shortage occasioned by the war has created. Many and varied new post boxes have appeared in Bluff. A novel one is a miniature of the home of the owner—a story and a-half bungalow—the upper casement windows appearing in the model as the vent through which the mail is placed. Other post office economies recently inaugurated at Bluff are the cessation of the 7 to 8 p.m. counter service, Saturday half-holiday, reduction of the distance for free delivery of telegrams and earlier closing of mails.
