SCOTTS GAP OTAUTAU RABBIT BOARD
FORMATION AUTHORIZED BY FARMERS The necessary number of signatures of farmers in the district covered by the proposed Scotts Gap-Otautau Rabbit Board’s boundaries have been added to a petition which was recently circulated in the district and when the legal procedure has been completed, a board will be set up. Mr O. O. Mackley, of the Department of Agriculture, Invercargill, who is in charge of the arrangements for the formation of the board, said yesterday that he expected a notice announcing the formation of the board would be gazetted within a month. The board’s district, which will cover an area of about 24,800 acres, will extend from a few miles north of the, Scotts Gap school, past the Otautau township to within a few miles of Fairfax. Arrangements are also in train for the addition of about 15,000 acres to the district controlled by the Woodlands Rabbit Board. This extra area, in which there are more than 30 farmers, lies north of the present boundary. A petition was recently circulated
among the farmers in the extra area and as the necessary majority added their signatures, the legal procedure which is necessary before the area can be brought into the board’s district is being expedited. ‘ ,
