GOVERNMENT OFFICER INTERVENES
DISPUTE AT MACDONALD ■ MINE (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 13. The intervention at the instance of the Government of Mr C. L. Hunter, the Labour Department liaison officer, in the dispute at the Macdonald and Glen Afton collieries, which has resulted in nearly 400 men stopping work, was the only new development today. No work was done at either mine.
Soon after his arrival from Wellington this morning Mr Hunter conferred with Mr T. Hall, secretary of the Northern Miners’ Union. He also met the management of the collieries in the afternoon. Mr Hunter met the executive of the local union and their deliberations extended over three and ahalf hours.
In a statement tonight Mr Hall said that as a result of the conference a special meeting of members of the Macdonald and Glen Afton branches of the union would be held tomorrow morning, when the men would be addressed by Mr Hunter.
