PATRIOTIC GYMKHANA FUNDS WILL BENEFIT CONSIDERABLY The gymkhana organized by the Civil Servants’ Princess Committee proved a great success and the patriotic funds will benefit considerably. During the afternoon there was a number of tryouts among the residents, the mounts being draught horses. The highlight of the programme was the heavyweight handicap, the riders all weighing in over 16 stone. The winners were as follows.—Railway Handicap: T. Small 1, B. Marshall 2, S. Earl 3. Flying Handicap: G. Staite 1, B. Marshall 2, A. Cook 3. Heavyweights’ Cup: P. Moffitt 1, H. Thompson 2, G. Hamilton 3. Lumsden Handicap: I. McDonald 1, W. Menlove 2. Civil Servants’ Trots: W. Anderson 2.
An exhibition of buck-jumping was given by Messrs I. McDonald, N. McPhee and T. Small, jun. Children’s races were also run, the results being:—Girls 13 and under: J. Humphries 1, N. Small 2. Girls 10 and under: B. Latham. Boys under 10: L. Tomlin. Boys under II: D. Coleman. Boys under 13: —. Sweeney. Best | decorated bicycle or doll’s pram: Nolene Parker. Wheelbarrow races (open). —L. Domigan 1, W. Small 2. Boys: I-. Butson 1, S. Staite 2. Wheelbarrow handicap: D. McPhee 1, T. Robb 2. Challenge match: J. Domigan 1, G. Small 2. Bicycle races (boys): L. Tomlin 1, L. Soper 2. Second race: S. Staite 1, D. Coleman 2. Girls: O. Little 1, D. Soper 2, M. Sherriff 3. f A mock Court run by boys netted over £lO for the day. The boys responsible were Russell Pont, G. Domigan, Russel Boyd, Gordon Sim and Lloyd Keown.
The proceedings were brought to a dose at a dance in the evening, the music for which was supplied by Tomlin Bros, Mr I. Smith being master of ceremonies. Mr J. Domigan presented the trophies won at the sports meeting. The competitions resulted: Order for clothing: Mr L. R. Clode (Athol). Pic-

SOLDIERS’ REUNION At the monthly meeting of the Lumsden Returned Soldiers’ Association it was decided to hold the annual reunion on September 28. At a meeting of the women’s committee an amount of £l/4/- was received from the Lumsden branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union as a donation to the funds. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY A meeting of the Lumsden Horticultural Society decided to hold the spring
show on October 5, all profits to be donated to the local patriotic funds. In conjunction with the show a produce stall will be run, the takings also to be for the patriotic funds.
