THE WEATHER

Fair To Cloudy (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, September 12. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong north-westerly winds; weather fair to cloudy but rain developing later from the west. Mild temperatures. Seas slight to moderate.

Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair to fine except in the Gisborne area, where isolated showers are still likely. Cloud increasing tomorrow in the western and far southern districts of the South Island and drizzle developing later in south Westland. Cold night with frosts and morning fogs. Day temperatures milder.

General Situation. —An almost stationary • anti-cyclone coders New Zealand and the north Tasman Sea, while an extensive depression is centred west of Tasmania. Winds.—Moderate " south-easterlies over the northern half of the North Island, freshening at times in the Gisborne Elsewhere light to moderate and variable breezes with northerlies later predominating over tire South Island and freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters). —Rather rough between East Cape and Castle Point, but moderating; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea.— Light to moderate and variable winds in the central and northern portions with moderate seas; moderate to strong north-westerlies in the south with rising seas.
