OBITUARY
ADMIRAL TANIN YAMAYA (Received September 11, 10.5 p.m.) TOKYO, September 10. The death has occurred of Admiral Tanin Yamaya, aged 74. He commanded the combined fleet which occupied the German islands in the Pacific in 1914. MR D. C. CAMPBELL (Special to The Times) DUNEDIN, September 11.
The death occurred today of Daniel Currie Campbell, who for the past 10 years has been storeman, timekeeper and postmaster for the Public Works Department at Hollyford, and who was well known in South Otago and Dunedin. Mr Campbell came out to New Zealand at an early age and was educated at the Albany Street School, Dunedin, of which he was dux. While in Dunedin he was prominent in many sports and was a foundation member of the Pirates Football Club and played with such well-known footballers as Donald Stuart and Arthur Pryde. He served in the Boer War and was one of those chosen by Captain Findlay to attend the peace conference. As a young man he was employed on the Ardmore station at Kelso, which was owned by the late John Herbert, who was a friend of Mr Campbell’s father. Later he managed the Cookrock station for several years and 10 years ago he joined the Public Works
staff at Hollyford, where he became a popular and well-known figure to thousands of visitors to this scenic resort. He is survived by a wife and two sons. \
