EVENING TOURNEY AT WOODLANDS FIGHTER PLANE FUND BENEFITS The Southland Fighter Plane Fund benefited .to the extent of £ll as a result of the Woodlands Basketball Club’s evening tournament in the public hall.
There were nine teams entered in the women’s section, and after a fine exhibition of basketball, Woodlands Rovers was successful in winning the cup. Roslyn Bush, the winning team in the consolation round, played well considering it does not play regularly. In the men’s section, six teams entered, Mokotua being successful. Mrs T. McKinnel and Mr W. Bell were the scorer and time-keeper respectively. The referees were Miss Barraclough and Mr W. Robertson. Results: WOMEN’S SECTION First round: Woodlands 8 beat Kew 3; Oteramika 4 beat Roslyn Bush 2; Woodlands Rovers 10 beat Mokotua 2; Kennington 11 beat Southland County Council 0; Morton Mains a bye. Second round: Woodlands 5 beat Morton Mains 1; Woodlands Rovers 5 beat Oteramika 3; Kennington a bye. Semi-final: Woodlands 9 beat Kennington 3; Woodlands Rovers a bye. Final: Woodlands Rovers 5 beat Woodlands 3. Consolation Round Roslyn Bush 5 beat Kew 3; Mokotua a bye. Final: Roslyn Bush 5 beat Mokotua 1. MEN’S SECTION First round: Southland County Council 1 beat Roslyn Bush 0; Waimatua 10 beat Dacre 0; Mokotua 5 beat Woodlands 4. Semi-final: Waimatua 4 beat Southland County Council 1. Mokotua a bye. Final: Mokotua 3 beat Waimatua 2.
A dance followed the tournament.
