ZONING OF DELIVERY OF MILK
COUNCIL RELIEVED OF RESPONSIBILITY
A statement that he had been informed by milk vendors of the city that they were not satisfied with the zoning arrangements which had been proposed for the delivery of milk was made at the meeting of the City Council last night by Cr A. Scott. In reply to questions he said he understood that at least three vendors would be allowed to deliver milk in each area, thereby giving consumers a choice of milk.
The Works Committee reported that the Oil Fuel Controller, Wellington, had forwarded a copy of the Delivery Emergency Regulations 1940 which gave protection to those taking part in approved zoning schemes for milk and other commodities. The report of the city inspector (Mr R. H. Bleakley) was as follows: “These regulations appear to relieve the council of any further responsibility for giving milk vendors the protection of licence control in their efforts to introduce zoning. The regulations give the vendors all the protection they require. It is up to the milk vendors now to prepare their scheme for submission to the Minister. I suggest the secretary be advised accordingly.” The committee recommended that the secretary of the Milk Vendors’ Association be advised in terms of the city inspector’s report.
