RIGGS BEATS HUNT AT FOREST HILLS
(Received September 9, 9.30 p.m.) FOREST HILLS, September 9. R. L. Riggs entered the final of the men’s singles in the national tournament, beating J. Hunt, 4-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. In the other semi-final D. McNeil beat J. Kramer, 6-1, 4-7, 6-4, 6-4. In a women’s singles semi-final Miss Alice Marble beat Miss Scott, 6-3, 6-3.
COLLEGIATE CLUB’S REPORT
Last season bld students of the Southland Technical College held a meeting and formed the Collegiate Tennis Club after which the club was granted affiliation to the Southland Lawn Tennis Association, says the club’s annual report. Mr C. A. Stewart, patron of tHe club, declared the season open and wished the club success in its first year of activity. A successful Yankee tournament was held. The clun entered two teams in the C grade competitions and although no success was gained by either team the experience obtained was very profitable to the young players. The committee is proud of the financial position of the club and has pleasure in stating that there are no unfinancial members, The financial statement showed a credit of £24/11/5. During the year free membership was granted to four students, two girls and two boys. During the year one of the players, P. Insall, left to join the Air Force.
