MATAURA NOTES

RIFLE SHOOTING. (From Our Correspondent.) Members of the Mataura Defence Rifle Club fired the first shoot in the second round for the McCreath Cup competition recently over ranges of 300 yards and 500 yards. The weather was fine but a strong gale prevailed. The scores were as follows:

B Grade. C. Johnston .... 45 (3) 41 (3) 86 E. Johnston .. .. 38 (4) 43 (3) 79 Mataura Golf Club. On the King’s Birthday teams of 11 ladies representing the Gore and Mataura Club played a match. The links were in excellent order and play was interesting throughout. Gore held a slight' advantage. Basketball. St. Patrick’s (Gore) journeyed to Mataura yesterday and met and defeated the home side by 20 points to 3.
