THE CABLE SHIP IRIS. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 10.35 p.m.) Sydney, June 3. Mr Percy Hunter, manager of the Pacific cable organization, contradicts a statement published here from Auckland that the cable ship Iris is to be sold owing to wireless competition with the cables. He describes the statement as mere idle waterfront gossip, and declares that there is yet no alternative service, to the cables in sight.
