RELIABILITY TRIAL

SOUTHLAND MOTOR CYCLE CLUB. YESTERDAY’S OUTING. Highly satisfactory entries were received for the Southland Motor Cycle Club’s reliability trial which was held yesterday, there being some 35 starters. The weather was fine and there was an interested crowd in attendance. Retirements were very much more the ease than usual and of the 35 starters only 16 checked in at the conclusion. Some time was lost in the morning and as a result it was found necessary to delay the afternoon’s programme for 1} hours. The motor cyclists travelled at a speed of 24 miles per hour over rough country, very difficult hills being experienced in Otatara, while the big swamp near the beach was responsible for much trouble. Following are the provisional results: — Solo, over 400 c.cs.: W. G. Jones 497 Ariel, with a score of 175 out of 1,000 points. Side-car class: H. S. Jones 989 Harley 655pts 1, R. McLean 744 Indian minus 45pts 2. . The results of the lightweight class and other placings are not -yet available.
