LONDON NEWSPAPERS
DAILY CHRONICLE CEASES.
PURCHASE BY DAILY’ NEWS.
(United Press Assn. —By Telegraph—Copyright.) London, June 1. The News of the World learns that negotiations have been completed for the purchase of the Daily Chronicle by the Daily News.
The disappearance of the Daily Chronicle leaves the Daily News the only Liberal London morning paper. The cessation was dramatically sudden. The staff was unaware until the last, as qn Saturday, while the usual preparations were going on for the production of Monday’s paper, it was stated that negotiations had been completed only 48 hours ago. The remarkable success of the new Daily Herald is believeu to be largely responsible for Liberalism combining the two newspapers.
The Daily Chronicle, which was established in 1855, was one of the leading organs of the London Daily Press. It was published simultaneously in London and Leeds.
