MEETING OF LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The annual meeting of the Wallace Licensing Committee was held at Riverton yesterday. There were present: Messrs C. E. Levvey (chairman), J. Korrell, A. Bulman, J. Forde, J. Fleck and W. Templeton.
The following applications were dealt with:— Transfers: McGillivray, Thomas, to Robert Daley, Travellers’ Rest Hotel, Drummond; Crawford, Robert Fleming to Henry Craven McGavock, Elbow Hotel, Lumsden.

All the applications were granted with the following exceptions: Globe Hotel, Riverton; Great Western Hotel, Riverton; Crown and Otautau Hotels, Otautau; Railway, Mossburn; Commercial, Waikaia; Empire, Waikaia; Parawa Junction, Parawa; Royal, Waikaka. The chairman said the committee was in favour of having septic tanks erected at these hotels, and the applications would be adjourned to the September meeting. Where sufficient water was not available the committee would perhaps come to some suitable arrangements with the licensees.
An application for an extension of the bar in (lie Travellers’ Rest Hotel, Drummond, by Robert Daley was refused. Mr J. A. C. Mackenzie, on behalf of the Riverton publicans, asked that they be allowed to extinguish the lamp lights at a certain hour instead of having to burn them all night. The chairman advised counsel to put in an application for same, and the matter would be considered at the September meeting of the committee. Inspector McCarthy, who represented the police, reported favourably on the conduct of the hotels.
