WINTON SCHOOL
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS.
FINANCIAL SUCCESS. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. (From Our Correspondent.) A meeting of the executive committee of the Diamond Jubilee of the Winton School was held on Friday evening. Mr J. P. McWilliam presided over twenty-two members. The secretary, Mr J. Lilico, reported that there would be a credit balance of approximately £l4O, after all accounts had been paid. Messrs R. M. Gilmour and J. S. Nelson were appointed auditors. The president remarked that the tombstone on the grave of the late Mr Dugald Cameron at the Winton Cemetery was not engraved. As the late Mr Cameron was the second headmaster at the Winton School, he suggested that the engraving be put on by the Jubilee Committee.—lt was decided to leave the matter in the president’s hands. Mr J. R. Hamilton referred to the excellent manner in which the secretary, Mr J. Lilico, had conducted the affairs of the jubilee. He stated that Mr Lilico had worked on different matters concerning the jubilee for months prior to the celebrations, and a week prior to and during the jubilee he had devoted the whole of his time to make the various functions the success they undoubtedly were. The good work of Mr D. Wildey, who acted as doorkeeper to all functions, was also referred to. —It was decided to vote the sum of £lO 10/-, as a slight appreciation of his services, and also £3 3/- to Mr Wildey. Mr Lilico, in thanking the committee, stated that he took the position of secretary because he was fond of the Winton School, and he remarked that his work was made easier by the energetic committee. He remarked that the excellent credit balance, was due to the untiring efforts of the decade secretaries. Mr D. Wildey endorsed the previous speaker's remarks. Mr J. S. Nelson referred to the work of the decade secretaries, and he suggested that the secretaries be presented with a suitably inscribed photograph of the jubilee gathering. Mr R. M. Gilmour, on behalf of the decade secretaries, thanked Mr Nelson for his kind remarks and he stated that they had enjoyed their work and had already ordered a photograph of the jubilee gathering.
It was decided to vote £2 2/- to Mrs McArthur for the unsparing efforts she had put in to make the orchestra, at the jubilee ball a success.
A suggestion was made to get a souvenir book of the jubilee celebrations published, but the matter was left over in the meantime.
Mr J. S. Nelspn read out a number of names of soldiers who took part in the Great War, and ex-pupils of the Winton School, and their names were not on the Roll of Honour Board.—lt was decided to go into the matter at a later date.
