CHICAGO GUNMEN
SALOON KEEPER’S TRAP. AMBUSH BY THE POLICE. Chicago, May 14. Jack Hayes, proprietor of a beer and gambling saloon in Clark Street, Chicago, heard rumours about a coming robbery, and as a precaution invited the police to receive his unwelcome guests. Five officers ambushed the bandits, and when the smoke of the shooting had cleared, Hayes and two of the invading gunmen were dead, and Joseph Altmeicr, special investigator for the district attorney, who had directed the police was seriously hurt.
