RIFLE SHOOTING
CITY GUARDS CLUB. On Saturday afternoon the week-end members of the City Guards Rifle Club held a practice shoot at 300 and 600 yards, seven shots being fired at each distance. The shooting conditions were good; a good light and steady wind prevailed throughout the afternoon. The scoring, with one or two exceptions was poor, only two reaching 60 for the two ranges. The best score for the day was obtained by J. T. Wilson who was top at both ranges making 31 at 300 yards as follows: 5 5 5 4 4 4 4 —31 and 32 at 600 yards reading 5 5 4 4 4 5 5 —32, a total of 63 for the two ranges. J. Ure was second with 30, 31—61, a young territorial, F. Lawton being third with 29, 30 —59, a good score for a young shot over these two ranges. Following are the scores:—

Wilson, W. Baldwin, F. Lawton. C team: J. Buttelph, J. Storrie, A. N. Smith, H. Livingstone, C. H. Buckingham. Members are reminded that the match commences at 8.30 a.m. INVERCARGILL DEFENCE CLUB. The final for the May Cup was fired on Saturday afternoon the weather being cold but fine. Shooting conditions were fairly good and some excellent scores resulted. The ranges were 300 and 600 yards. 7 shots at each and 22 members competed. At 300 yards W. S. Ayson and W. E. Diack made 33 each, the former winning on the count back, the scores reading—s4s4sss—33 and 5455455—33. At 600 yards T. E. Henshelwood with 33, headed the .list, his score reading 5554554—33. R. C. Anderson, one of the colts, made 32. W. S. Ayson, C. H. Cunningham and W. Henderson making the same score. The best aggregate was made by W. S. Ayson, whose total of 65 was a good shoot at these ranges. Following are the scores:—
