PROPOSED NATIONAL CENTRE.
SPECIAL COMMITTEE’S SCHEME.
(British Official Wireless.). (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, May 29. A National Society in London, under the control of a board of governors appointed by the Prime Minister and maintained by a grant of £lOO,OOO a year from the revenue of the Broadcasting Corporation, is recommended by a special committee under the chairmanship of Lord Lytton set up by the Government to frame a scheme for the establishment and endowment of a national centre of dramatic art.
The report says that' the Shakespeare Memorial Committee could provide £lOO,OOO to the amount required for the theatre, which, after preliminary expenditure, should be self-supporting. Such a theatre would provide continual opportunities of seeing the best plays of all the ages worthily presented.
