5 RANGOON DEATH ROLL
(United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 11.20 p.m.) Delhi, May 30. British police,' officials and civilians at Dacca (East Bengal) and Howrah, near Calcutta, were attacked By riotous mobs yesterday. The superintendent of police at Dacca was thrown down and beaten, and his revolver was taken. He was then thrown into a ditch. Europeans who attempted to rescue him were severely beaten. Railway waggons at Howrah were set on fire, and the station was bombarded with stqnes. The police fired their revolvers, and dispersed an angry mob. Railway officials and some police were “severely injured by stones. A message from Rangoon states that the death rolCas a result of the riots is now 168, and 670 Indians were injured. Three fatal assaults on Burmese occurred yesterday.
Indian leaders and Buddhist priests are endeavouring to restore peace.
