RADIO CLUB
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Southland Radio Club met last evening, Mr A. W. Jones presiding over the following members:— Messrs E. McK. Lyons, F. Booth Jnr., L. Alsweiler, C; Lockhart, R. 0. Boyens and the organizer (Mr J. Cheyne). The secretary reported that congratulatory messages from many parts of the province regarding last Tuesday’s successful broadcast had been received. Similar messages had also been received concerning the broadcasting of. the matches at Rugby Park. An offer of a gramophone "pick-up,” kindly donated by Mr Lyons for use ,in the studio, was accepted with thanks. It was. decided to broadcast, the first part of the Orphans’ Club concert this evening, and the Galt-Nicol boxing contest at the Civic Theatre.
Authorization was received from the managers of the Majestic and Regent Theatres to instal land lines for the broadcasting of talkie pictures. The programme committee announced that a specially selected programme of musical and elocutionary items had been aranged for Tuesday evening. It was also reported that arrangements had been made to broadcast the service at St. Paul’s Church on Sunday pvening. Mr Lyon was deputed to wait upon the Catholic and Baptist Churches with *a view to having land lines installed at these churches.
The organizer reported that the membership was increasing steadily and that during the week he had enrolled 100 new members.
