A DANCER COMPLAINS.

To The Editor.

Sir, —As a visitor to your city, I was at a loose end the other evening, and so I strolled into a dance hall. I was immediately struck with three things, viz:—Poor music, old fashioned dances, and the out-of-date dresses of the girls. Further to my remarks about the girls, one could not help noticing the lack of knowledge of the art of “doing up” skilfully. We all know the old saying, “Little dabs of powder, little daubs of paint, make the ladies’ wrinkles look as if they ’aint,” but alas, sir, where the little daubs were needed, I found that the paint brush had been wielded recklessly, and the powder forgotten. On the other hand, where the paint pot had evidently run dry, an uninteresting, unbecoming pallor was obvious.

What are the Invercargill dress salons doing that the frocks are so out-of-date and why the “Poor Old Joe” music? However, apart from the above a "pleasant” time was had by all. —I am, etc., THIS IS 1930.
