OTAUTAU WINTER SHOW

A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. AWARDS IN SCHOOL WORK. Owing to the inclement weather conditions on Wednesday evening there was only a fair attendance at the Otautau Winter Show. In introducing Mr Adam Hamilton, Dr. Reekie, president of the Progressive League, thanked the exhibitors for the magnificent display on the stalls. Only one section was down in entries, and in every other there was practically a record entry. The needlework was outstanding. He congratulated the prize-winners, and asked that all exhibitors come forward with their entries next year. Mr Hamilton congratulated the president (Dr. Reekie) the secretary (Miss Hope), and the committee on having such a good show. The competitors also deserved thanks. The action of the South Island Poultry Association in awarding championships was to be commended, and these had elicited competition from all parts of the South Island. He was pleased to state that 'the championship for Black Leghorns had gone to Mr H. Matheson (Nightcaps), the one for White Wyandottes had been awarded to a Kaitangata breeder (Mr S. JSharman), while no entries had. been received for Andalusians. He also congratulated the league on organizing the show, and said this body was out to foster anything which was for the good of the district. He trusted the show would prove a success from all points of view. The judge of the dairy produce, Mr_ A. Beange, said in the first and second awards in the fresh butter the flavour was excellent, with the right percentage of moisture. In the powdered butter the first and second awards tied, but the square pats were put out in favour of the round ones. The quality was good in the salt butter. There were only two entries in the fancy butter. Following is the prize-list in the school section:—:
