CHANGE OF NAME.
To the Editor.
Sir, —I hqve read the correspondence in your paper regarding change of name for both our city and province with great interest, also regret. I would like to ask a question or two of you and hope an abler pen than mine will answer as I doubt if any of those wishing for this change has given a thought to all it might mean. What about Cousin Betty and her Little Southlanders? These children will be the men and women of Southland in a few years time and I venture to say that they will be far better for the thoughtfulness for others that Cousin Betty is teaching them. She has shown them that children can help if they unite and with loving and helpful advice from-their‘elders carry out plans that would otherwise be impossible. If this change of names is carried out do you think these children will have the same pride and love for the new badge and name that will have to be made as they have for L.S. Badge now? The Little Southlanders are known much further off than a good many people realize through the medium of the newspapers, and it is to be hoped that their efforts may still continue for the help of others, sick and helpless,’ and with little to brighten lives of suffering, but I hope it will always be as Cousin Betty’s Little Southlanders’ headquarters, Esk street, Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand.—l am, etc., SOUTHLANDER (Though born in England).
