OTAUTAU RIVER BOARD.
To the Editor.
Sir,—l was pleased to see another ratepayer signing himself “Farmer” had seen fit to write to you, backing up my statements in a previous letter. After making fuller inquiries into the matter, I find that not one member but both members representing one subdivision of the above River Board have found an easy way to get rid of some of their tree-tops by using them mostly for protection purposes in their own properties presumably at the ratepayers’ expense. Now, Sir, can you imagine any more farcical comedy than the spectacle of a member representing the ratepayers, haggling with his sons over the price of some piece of work? This method may be quite satisfactory to those interested, but to all outside appearances this is hardly .good enough for the ratepayers. Last year we had a very stiff rate imposed upon us, and many were the complaints, but I hate to think where the present squandering policy of the above members will lead us to. I think that “Farmer’s” suggestion to calling a meeting an excellent idea, to ask the above members to explain or resign.— I am, etc., , RATEPAYER.
