EMPIRE CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE. IMPERIAL PREFERENCE QUESTION. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) London, May 22. The twelfth congress of Chambers of Commerce of the Empire, which the Prince of Wales will open at the Guildhall on Monday, promises to be the largest and most important in 36 years’ history. The delegates exceed 300, including Britain 160, Canada 34, South Africa 26, India 24, Australia 23, and New Zealand 9, An outstanding subject is inter-Empire commercial relations concerning which 12 resolutions will be submitted on behalf of various parts of the Empire. Britain advocates wide extensions of Imperial preferences, while Canada proposes to enlist the co-operation of the Imperial Economic Conference for the promotion of inter-Empire trade, also the establishment of a permanent Advisory Economic Council. New Zealand urges the maintenance of inter-Empire tariffs at the lowest possible levels.
