A conference of shipowning interests and shippers has opened in Sydney, being the first since the recent legislation was passed enabling shipowner and . shipper to enter into contracts for the carriage of goods. The main purpose of the conference is to determine how far freight rates can be maintained at the present level, having regard to the severe depression apd the Government’s embargo upon overseas cargoes. The deliberations are private.
