ROYAL SHOWS
SUBSIDY ON FREIGHT CHARGES PROPOSED. (Per United Press Association.) Palmerston North, May 21. At the annual meeting of the executive of the Ayrshire Cattle Breeders’ Association a letter was received from the Royal Agricultural Society stating that a movement was on foot to earmark a part of the Breed Societies’ donation for the purpose of subsidizing long distance exhibitors to Royal shows and so reduce their freight charges. The chairman, Mr Weir, said that at all the Royal Shows in Canada the Provincial Government paid exhibitors’ freights to shows, while they were heavily subsidized by the Federal and Provincial Governments. It was resolved to reply opposing in a letter and to recommend the Royal Society to appeal to the Government for assistance in the direction indicated.
