EASTERN BUSH
FAREWELL SOCIAL. (From Our Correspondent.) A very enjoyable evening was spent in the Eastern Bush Hall on Monday evening, .January 10, the occasion being a farewell social to Mr J. E. Lilico, who was leaving the district on a trip to the Homeland. Friends were present from Birchwood, Clifden, Tuatapere, Wairaki, Orawia and Eastern Bush. The evening was spent chiefly in dancing to music supplied by Miss Brick. Mr A. Muir made an efficient M.C. At suitable intervals songs were rendered by Miss Morrell (Dunedinl and Miss Edie, Miss Gillies (Dunedin) acting as pianist. After an early supper had been handed round by the ladies, Mr C. Gardner, of Clifden, on behalf of friends, presented Mr Lilico with a gold wristlet watch, a suitcase and a wallet of notes. He said he regretted greatly that Mr Lilico was leaving the district, and he would be /nuch missed by all who knew him. He spoke at length of the guest’s fine qualities and sporting nature, and said he hoped it would not be long before he would be back, and that he would settle down among his old friends. Mr Gardner’s remarks were endorsed by Dr. Gillies, Mr W. J. McLaren, Mr H. D. Irving, Mr P. Gardner and Mr D. S. McLaren. Mr Lilico in reply said he wished to return sincere thanks for the kindly expressions of esteem and good wishes and also for the handsome presents, not only for their value, but for the spirit in which they had been given. He would never forget his residence in the district, and was leaving there some of the best friends he had ever had, or ever expected to have. He hoped to meet them all again on his return. (Loud Applause) . The singing of “For he’s a Jolly Good Fellow” brought a pleasant function to a fitting conclusion.
