AEROPLANE CRASHES

FOUR LIVES LOST. Malta, January 18. An Air Force aeroplane attached to the carrier Eagle crashed on a cliff at Alafrana. Officers E. Chafe and G. O. Owen and telegraphist G. W. Bunton were killed. It is reported that a third officer perished. —A. and N.Z. FLYING IN RAIN-STORM. (Rec. 8.5 p.m.) Malta, January 18. The plane was flying in a downpour of rain and boisterous wind. In attempting to make a forced landing, it struck the cliff and fell into the sea. The officer previously unidentified is Flight-Lieutenant .Brewerton—A. and N.Z.
