MEXICAN RISING

CHURCH MILITANT ARCHBISHOP ALLEGEDLY LEADING REBELS GOVERNMENT TAKING DRASTIC ACTION (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 pm.) Mexico City, January 18. The Government insists that Francisco Jimminz the Catholic Archbishop of Guadalajara is in the field personally leading the revolutionary army of five hundred riflemen in the State of Jalisco. On the other hand the Churchman's friends declare that he is in no way responsible for the uprising, having fled from Guadalajara a fortnight ago, fearing arrest. Whichever report is correct the Government is extremely concerned at the seriousness of the situation, fearing that the flame of rebellion will spread throughout, the entire district. The War Department has ordered reinforcements to be entrained, with orders to ruthlessly crush the rebels. The newspaper Elsol declares that the Archbishop flooded Jalisco with seditious literature, and is making real headway in the war against the Government under the banner “Live live Christ, our King.”—A. and N.Z.
