ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES
MOTOR CAP OVERTURNS,

Marton, January 18. A car driven by Stanley Rickard, a chemist, of Wellington, containing his wife, two brothers, Mrs Sutherland (sister-in-law I and a little girl, skidded and overturned near Bulls this morning. The party was returning from a tour of the island. Mrs Rickard was seriously injured and admitted to the Wanganui Hospital. The others escaped with slight injuries.
CHILD'S DEATH
Waimate, January 18. The inquest on the body of the newly born child which was found in the riverbed on Sunday was adjourned sine dip. The medical evidence showed that the child had been suffocated, probably by a bundle of cloth, which was jambed tightly in front of the neck.
ACCIDENT ON SHIP. Dunedin, January 18
Alfred Shepherd, aged 21 years, an officer on lioard the Trevorian, was admitted to the hospital to-day suffering from a compound fracture of the left leg and a simple fracture of the right leg sustained through a case falling on him front a sling in the ship’s hold. He was given blood transfusion and operated on, the left leg being amputated. He is on the dangerously ill Iwt.
INJURIES PROVE FATAL
Dunedin January 18.
Shepherd, who was injured during the loading of the Trevorian this morning, died during the evening.
