SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTIONS AN NOUNCED.
(Per United Press Association.)
Auckland, January 18
Substantial reductions in prices of certain lines of fertilizers are announced by merchants and manufacturers of superphosphates. The new rates will take effect from to-morrow.
Prices per ton in each case, less 5/- for cash, are as follows:—44-46 per cent, super £5 2/6; basic super £6 15/-; Nauru phosphate £5. Prices are f.o.b. Westfield or Te Papapa, and 5/- additional is charged for f.o.b. Auckland, or Onehunga. After an absence of several months in England, Mr A. E. Ellis, New Zealand representative on the British Phosphate Commission, returned by the Marama. While in England he met the English and Australian Commissioners, Messrs A. R. Dickinson and P. Dene. In a conference, matters in connection with Dominion requirements had been fully discussed, and he con sidered that the arrangements made for the marketing of phosphates should prove very satisfactory. Good work had been done at Nauru and Ocean Islands, and during the last half-year record quantities had been shipped, about 280,000 tons in all.
