SUMMER SCHOOL

OPENS TO-MORROW TEACHERS AT STEWART ISLAND ARRANGEMENTS WELL FORWARD To-morrow nearly one hundred toadiere will be stepping blithely aboard the Theresa Ward, all eager to set foot on that, enchanted spot, Stewart Island, which for a week is to be their home. Most of them will be from Southland, but all parts of New Zealand will have representatives. The attraction is the third summer school of the Southland branch of the New Zealand Education Institute. It is confidently expected that this session will prove both more profitable and more enjoyable than the preceding ones. No more idyllic spot than Stewart Island could be found, and the coming week should tie one of the happiest in the lives of the teachers attending the school. At the same time the list of lectures ensures that those who seek inspiration and guidance will receive fuH measure. The visitors wiH be a very large but very happy family, for “Ferndale House” has been secured for their accommodation and they will thus lie all under the one roof. In every way the most complete arrangements for the comfort of the teachers have been made and there is little doubt that the 1927 session will be an unqualified success. The Director of the School wiH be Dr. J. Lawson, Professor of Education at the University of Otago. Mr T. R. Fleming, late senior inspector of schools, .will lecture on English literature and history. Nature study lectures wiH be in the hands of Mr William Martin, headmaster of the Mosgiel District High School. Mr L. J. Watkin, art master at the Wellington Training College, will deal with drawing in relation to school work. Health problems will be discussed by Dr. M-alcolm, Professor of Physiology at the University of Otago.

To-morrow afternoon the school will be officially opened and will continue till the following Wednesday.
