SCHOOL COMMITTEES
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the School Committees’ Association on Friday last was attended by Messrs M. Butterfield (chairman), A. W. Jones. M. Murray, F. Blake, A. Bain, F. W. Preddy, C. Patton and A. E. Gardner. A letter from the Federated School Committees’ Association notified that the annual conference would be held on July 12 at Wellington. It was decided to affiliate with the Federated Association, and the appointment of a driegate was held over until next meeting. The chairman referred to the time lost by children as the result of vaccination, and pointed out that this would mean the loss of their attendance certificates. After some discussion it was decided that nothing could he done in the matter. It was stated, however, that as the grants to the various school committees were based on the average monthly attendance, the amount of time lost by the children through sickness during the last few months would seriously affect the finances of the committees. In this connection it was decided to approach the Education Board with a view to having the last two quarters’ attendances eliminated, owing to the amount of sickness prevalent. Mr A. W. Jones protested at the delay in the erection of the new South School building, and moved that a letter he sent to the Education Board requesting that the work of building the school 'be commenced as soon as possible as the new school was urgently required. The motion was seconded by Mr A. E. Gardner and carried.
