THE COMING SESSION

LONG AND ARDUOUS. MUCH WORK IN PROSPECT. (Special to the Times.) WELLINGTON, June 13. As the Prime Minister has frequently stated, the coming session will be a long and arduous one, lasting for at least five months. Many bills are ready, and tho Fnancial Statement awaits now the customary review and amendment by the Cabinet. There will be plenty of work for tho House to keep it busy as soon as it meets next week. It is understood that some„mng of the Government’s proposals will be disclosed in the Governor-General’s speech. Mr Massey has done nothing yet about the appointment of another Minister. Ha suggested at the time the last appointments were announced that he might make another appointment to the Ministry later. Sir William Fraser will be retiring within the next 1 few 7 days and this leaves the port>.)io of Minns to he allocated. The Defence portfolio also has not been definitely tccei.. as Mr Coates has expressed his wish f o be relieved of it for the reason that Public Works and Defence are too much for one Minister. Mr Lee is taking over the Board of Trade from Mr Massey this week. It is just possible also that a few appointments may be made to the Legislative Council before the House meets, or soon aftrwards.
