ITALIAN CRISIS
RESIGNATION OF THE PREMIER. SCENE IN THE CHAMBER. STRIKES AND RIOTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) ROME, June 10. Signor Nitti’s resignation is confirmed. It was tendered after he announced the cancellation of the bread decree, which, however, was too late to save the Government. It is expected that Signor Giolitti will be asked to return to power. The last sitting of the Chamber before Signor Nitti resigned ended in a free fight between the Right Deputies and Socialists. The resignation evoked a general strike at Apulia, followed by clashes between the crowd ami the troops. The latter fired a vclley, wounding 50. Public services were paralysed. The trops are patrolling the streets with machine guns. The strike has extended over the whole province. Agricultural strikers at Treviso held up trains and forced landowners to sign a contract.
